( it's the perfect sort of day for a date out on the islands--a nice breeze, the lingering scent of flowers in the air, a bit of unfortunate pollen that makes him sneeze more than he would like, and the promise of so many opportunities for nature shots that he's tried to clear off a whole memory card just in case. naturally, of course, he's taking kyoko with him: he's not entirely sure that her favorite flower will be there, but it's a possibility, isn't it? and she's the subject he wants in his pictures, anyway; what's more romantic than a walk through beautiful flower arches, watching the late afternoon sun sink down into night? the stars are probably great out there, too, and it feels like it's been too long since he's seen them.

so--the plan is in motion, they've been together nearly all day anyway, from the early morning run to the hour it takes him to get ready and wonder where most of his clothes have been spirited off to. a loose fitting t-shirt, then, is what he pulls on over a pair of tight black pants and his boots--perfect for a lot of movement, his hair done up right, everything according to plan. he's got to be handsome for the prettiest girl in this place, right? and it's only once that they're off to the island, a map from the locals picking out the best towering flower arches in the distance, that he realizes something is just... off. he doesn't know quite what it is: just that it's, well, weird; kyoko seems subdued and almost sleepy, her eyes lidded and warm and for a moment, as they walk, he wonders if she's caught a fever. maybe it's allergies? he could understand that, but--

she's so pleasantly pliant that it's only once they reach the start of one large, arching gradient of various pinks and purples that she seems to go weak in the knees, and he hasn't even thrown her any of his famous one-liners to make it happen. it's not a problem for him to hoist her up--but it does mean that he can't get out his camera; instead, with kyoko kirigiri on his back, his arms looped up beneath her knees and her arms draped out around his shoulders, he carries her down the long path, using his eyes to marvel at the flowers around them, instead of a camera lens. )

U-waaah... ( softly, under his breath as they walk--he can't tell whether she's awake or not. ) I wonder how they get these to grow this way? I feel like it would take so much work. Do these flowers die and then they have to do it all over again? Hmm--

( he stops for a moment, takes a breath, and hoists kyoko up a bit higher on his back. )

[ All things considered, it's a bit later than Haru would typically stay awake: the text doesn't come in at the stroke of midnight, but it's somewhere close to that. It's possible that the more cat-like qualities of her Gembond may have something to do with it, keeping her a bit more nocturnal than she'd like...though, admittedly, that feels more like an excuse than anything else. After all, even without any monthly changes, it's fair to call Haru the mindful sort: the type to stay preoccupied with the thought of looking out for the little guy, whomever that may be...

So, in light of that, maybe it's not too surprising that she's feeling some kind of way, after seeing her own "little guys" off and out into the wide blue yonder. Things are certainly much quieter around her apartment, if nothing else...but whether that's because the bairns aren't there to make any noise, or because the girls that live there are a bit blue, is a bit tough to say.

It may be dark out, but Haru gets the feeling that Kirigiri is probably the sort to stay up late with her thoughts, as well. Maybe that's why... ]

In hindsight, this probably could have waited until morning, so I apologize if I'm keeping you. But I was wondering how you were doing, after all of this...

[ It isn't that she was worrying, necessarily, but Kirigiri's been on Haru's mind as much as the bairn they grew together has. Kirigiri may keep it cool, and play things a bit close to the chest, but Haru isn't a stranger to that...and for that reason, she feels particularly compelled to reach out. ]

[ He's...not really sure what to get for girls, or people in general, so he fell back to what he does know: coding programs that can function with a certain level of intelligence to assist those who use them. Once downloaded, a cute little detective hat icon is added to open the application. There's a short tutorial within, and clarification that typing in questions should net more in depth tutorials as long as they're worded clearly.

He's been poking at it for months now, but it's simply a digital assistant with three major functions.

The first function is encryption of data incoming and outgoing at a level Chihiro assumes Kyoko would prefer, without any bells and whistles beyond solid and intricate work done well. He uses the same encryption on his own device.

The second function is collecting and organizing any publicly posted network activity, or network activity Kyoko's device has access to filter-wise. Searching things manually is probably a hassle, and she's nosy curious, so it should help out, he thinks? There are options to have the assistant flag keywords or usernames and forward any relevant posts made with either, and so on - just nothing that breaks into locked entries she wouldn't otherwise be able to access since Chihiro is polite and they're not trying to outthink a murderer at the moment. It does also have connections to the "internet" in Noctium, so any available websites will also be searched when the assistant is queried about anything as well whenever Kyoko enters questions or commands into the text prompt box.

The third function appears to be a dedicated notebook function with various organization options and the sincere promise of the Ultimate Programmer that no one else should be able to crack into it (Chihiro probably could but he's...himself, so he's not going to) in order to allow her to organize anything she feels like taking notes on, if anything. Chihiro's actually unsure if Kyoko takes notes or just commits everything to memory, but he figures the worst that could happen is one function goes unused, which isn't terrible. That was the easiest one to code in anyway.

As soon as she accesses the program the first time, she's prompted to give the assistant a name of her choosing, so there's that, too. It's displayed still as a detective's hat, though occasionally it smokes a "detective's pipe" as an idle animation despite only being a hat - presumably Chihiro thought this was cute or something; the color coding is generally purple since Chihiro's fairly certain Kyoko likes that color.

It's meant to learn her needs as it goes, so it will forward things it gathers she'll find an interest in eventually as well without being prompted, though that function can be turned off and modified. As is probably to be expected from anything Chihiro works on, the programming is polite and helpful. ]

[ This will be actions since Chihiro will actually seek Kyoko out this time...he does tend to keep to himself as a housemate (he's the least obtrusive person ever, really) but he tries to show his face every so often to prove he's not, er, dead or something. And that he's actively trying to interact on occasion - but they're both sort of introverted on the whole and probably can go a fair amount of time doing their own things. Chihiro never tries to keep tabs on his classmate beyond checking that she's still around in Noctium in general, after all; Kyoko's business is her own and he assumes she'll just tell him any of the things she wants to share. ]
