I can make edits, yes. I can give, or I can take. Like if you wanted to learn French, you would know fluent French in the blink of an eye.

It misses out on some of the interesting parts of an interview, like watching someone's face. But the efficiency of it is unbeatable.

You're capable of altering qualities of a person's existence with the stroke of a pen, and you talk about it this casually?

I suppose if I really wanted, I could change who someone is entirely. But individuals are more interesting as they are. There's nothing to learn from someone that I created.

There's no sense in making someone someone else. Except for maybe in rare, exceptional cases where the safety of a city is a consideration.

Hm. I'm not sure if I believe that, but I'm skeptical of any significant power governed solely by the honor system.

In a manner, yes. I do plenty on my own, as well. But I can't experience everything, so why not draw from other's lives? Do writers and creators not conduct interviews? Do they not do research?

Tell me how they're different.

You shouldn't take it personally. Like I said, it's nothing to do with you specifically and everything to do with a greater philosophy.

Hmm. Are people's "books" written in their own words?

Right, whatever.

Not exactly in their own words. It's just the honest truth about whomever I'm reading. Things like biographical details to their thoughts and opinions on subjects. And fully detailed memories. There's no room for mistakes.

Think of it like: If you tell a story, you may not point out that couple at a coffee shop that you passed by, but this will tell me if you saw them because it's still part of your experience.

You still need people for the human reaction. As it were, what I can do doesn't eliminate all need for interaction, but it eliminates a lot of it.

Well, you asked me to tell you how they were different, and you explained it for yourself. An interview will always carry the human element — what a person chooses to include or leave out, consciously or otherwise. It'll include perspective and bias and philosophy.

Reading a person's book doesn't give them the opportunity to tailor the perspective they offer.

Do you enjoy those parts of an interview, Kirigiri-chan? Or maybe I should ask first - Do you often conduct interviews.

I find people like to leave out details I find interesting because they feel they're unimportant.

Enjoy isn't the right word. I find the way a story is told as valuable as the contents of a story itself.

I'm certain there are some people who like it, somewhere. You might surprise me and like sugar, cream, and that sugary caramel syrup that I see people get sometimes.

Are you good at being able to tell if someone is lying to you, Kirigiri-chan? I feel like you'd almost have to be when interrogating.

I've tried it that way before. It's not to my taste.

I'm equally good at telling when someone is being patronizing, but I'm sure you've already guessed that.

If you need things like that, you don't actually like coffee.

I don't know if I'd call this an interrogation. Certainly, if my work required me to interrogate people, I'd become the best possible.

I certainly learned plenty, though. Besides, how a character takes their coffee can be important in the right story.

Are you really content with just something like how I take my coffee?

Yes, I do. I anticipated that you would protest the idea.

I always want more, of course. I don't allow myself to be satisfied and just stop. That's how you stagnate. If I'm not getting better, there's no point.

And if I decide not to protest? How are you going to compensate me for letting you have access to the wealth of information inside me?

I guess I'll have to figure that out. I'm figuring a page-by-page rate, though.

Maybe something in addition to Synchrony. Using a Stand can cost quite a bit of Manna.
